about

STORY OF THE SONG:

I always feel at peace in water, as if the waves are washing away my every trouble and woe. I believe this is a sensation we can all relate to in some manner.

'Chlorine' had its beginnings many years ago, and started as a collaborative, conceptual project that never quite came to fruition.
The lyrics and melody of the chorus have been stowed neatly away in my mind for all this time, and only now have they found their rightful place.

I decided to revisit this concept after many Saturday swims with my Mum and Auntie at the local pool. In this time, I discovered my want to cleanse myself of all preconceived notions regarding my being, those held by myself and others, and I realised that I did not need to be in love to feel complete.

It is a path of struggles and self doubt, but it is an important path to follow.

LYRICS

My feet barely scrape the tiled floor of the swimming pool,
as I float in liquid fields of aquamarine.
Water humming, as I try to submerge the one’s before.
Blue eyes towards the ceiling, fluorescent clean.

In the silent space beneath the waves,
I luxuriate in a place of my creation.
Only for me.

Wipe away everything they thought they saw in me.
Chlorine.
Wipe away anything I thought I saw in me.
Chlorine.

Now I recognise that the man before was a simple fool,
who believed a stranger's love would make him complete.
As I break the surface, holding on to my semblance of truth,
I see that my own soul’s the one I need.

In the silent space beneath the waves,
I luxuriate in a place of pure elation.
Only for me

Wipe away everything they thought they saw in me.
Chlorine.
Wipe away anything I thought I saw in me.
Chlorine

I’ll be right here until I am a new man.
I’ll be right here.
